ABOUT
Our History
1906
In 1906, Jean Delliere and his two partners, all experts in fine linens and opulent European décor, opened The White House – a landmark shop on London's New Bond Street. During that time, all linens and towels were white, giving rise to The White House name.
1920
By the mid 1920’s the adjacent arcade and gallery and shop at No 52 were acquired, making way for a major reconstruction of the whole site which was opened by H.E. The French Ambassador in 1930. In his address he said ‘ The White house was a great example of the Entente Cordiale between our two counties, expressed in terms of happy commercial relations.’
1940
By this time the company has established a fine reputation both at home and abroad and
new departments had been opened including ladies fashions, lingerie, baby and childrenswear and later ladies and gentlemen’s accessories.
During the next 40 years the structure of the business did not change substantially although there was a considerable expansion in the product offer particularly in the area of home accessories including
the complete table top of china, crystal and silverware, with The White House becoming major London stockists for leading manufacturers such as Baccarat or Lalique.
1970
In the late 1970’s a design service was introduced to co-ordinate household linens and other decorative accessories into overall interior design schemes. This resulted in a most important new clientele including Royal Households around the world and many embassies. At the same time a subsidiary company was formed to export commercial quality textiles, mainly for institutional use, an early contract being to supply of the entire textile requirements for a state-of-the-art new hospital in Qatar.
2000
Towards the end of the millennium the Delliere family, by then in its fourth generation of owning and managing the business took a strategic decision to move away from retailing to concentrate on the design and production of an increasing range of household linens and other decorative accessories on a project by project basis. With almost a century of experience in this field and excellent network of contacts from the retail days the company was well positioned for the move and is now involved in the residential, yachting and aviation sectors around the world.
